Organic Coconut Oil

in Beauty, Style on 06/02/13

I know we have all seen the benefits of organic coconut oil on Pinterest. It helps with hair and skin care, heart disease, weight loss, immunity, healing infections and way more things that I know I am not even aware of! I have started using it instead of vegetable oil when cooking. I put it around my eyes and and on my lips. I put it all over my eyelashes to strengthen and moisturize them. I put it on my cuticles when I sleep….and I put it in my hair..I do this about every two weeks. I really feel like I should do it more because my hair feels so great after I do it, but, just like everyone else. I get busy before bed then by the time I have time to put it on, I am so exhausted, I just don’t do it. But when I do, It is amazing!!!!!

How I do it is, I put it from roots to ends on dry hair. You could put it on damp hair but, I am too lazy to get in the shower and get my hair wet and towel dry it good enough to make it dry enough to absorb. So, I just put it on my dry hair. You will end up using a little more this way, but if you don’t care, then go for it!

 Side note::
Coconut Oil comes in a solid form. Its melting point is around 76 to 78 degrees. I keep the coconut oil I am going to put in my hair and on my skin at room temperature. I put the oil I cook with in the fridge. I have read this is not necessary..I just do it to be cautious.

So therefore…
I get a little bit out of the tub at a time. Put it in between my hands until it starts to melt then just slowly work it into my hair. If I get a big hard glob stuck in my hair, I just hold it in my hands until it melts and the hair absorbs it. Once your hair feels like it has a decent coat over it, I just put it in a bun in a soft elastic and sleep in it. Sometimes I sleep on a towel, and sometimes I just wash my sheets the next day. Not that it would hurt anything, but I just prefer super clean sheets! 🙂

As you can see my hair just looks super greasy and shiny. It’s not dripping or anything but the more you put on, I am sure the better! If my hair is super dry (which in winter it tends to be) then it is typically all absorbed on the ends by the morning, I would recommend loading them down with the oil!

Other great uses for coconut oil are::
eye makeup remover
in place of lotion
massage oil
my son’s cheaks and nose when they get chapped
put on cuts and scrapes AND bruises
I put it on my ears after I wear cheap earrings
on fine lines and wrinkles (it has antioxidants)

What do you use organic coconut oil for???

    I've never used coconut oil for anything–but I keep meaning to! Do you wash your hair when you wake up?
